The key to the Karabakh conflict settlement is in Russia’s hands and depends on Moscow’s stance. Progress in Karabakh peace process will be conditioned by these factors, Alexander Arzumaynan, former RA Foreign Minister and member of oppositional Armenian National Congress told journalists on Tuesday.

Asked whether return of 7 regions to Azerbaijan is possible, Arzumaynan replied, “Return of 7 regions runs through Madrid Principles and any solution based on these principles hints at the withdrawal of Armenian troops from seven regions.”

Former Foreign Minister also touched upon resumption of hostilities. He noted that presently it is early to speak of such an outcome, as the talks based on Madrid Principles are underway. The sides are still negotiating on certain issues and it neutralizes renewal of hostilities. Similar scenario might occur if talks based on Madrid Principles reach deadlock.
