Armenian-Turkish relations cannot be normalized as long as the Azerbaijan-Turkey duet disputes the Armenian people’s right to self-determination, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun MP Ara Nranyan stated in the Armenian Parliament.

Turkey’s policy toard Nakhchivan is especially dangerous, he said. According to Nranyan, Turkey launched an active expansion policy in Nakhchivan. At present, official Ankara intends to construct a railway through Nakhchivan, operate a flight and deploy a military contingent. “In 1990s similar attempts were suppressed by Russia. Now, however, Moscow will not interfere and mutual visits of two countries’ officials were aimed at reaching a relevant agreement,” Nranyan said. Nranyan stressed that the Turkish Premier’s statements that third states should not be concerned over Ankara’s policy prove this.

“In this context, Armenia’s passive stance is just surprising, as Turkey’s presence in Nakhchivan is a direct threat to Nagorno-Karabakh’s security. Yerevan should necessarily response to Turkey’s policy toward Nakhchivan,” the MP concluded.
