The Armenian-Turkish Protocols are disgraceful documents, and the worst consequences of the process is that Turkey intruded into Karabakh peace process with great zeal, said oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) member and former Parliament Vice-Speaker Karapet Rubinyan.
According to him, it is no mere chance that the RA President’s attempts to settle the domestic legitimacy issue fail. “He could not stop the Armenia-Turkey process, but was only able to suspend it under pressure exerted by great powers,” Rubinyan said. Commenting on RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s statement that it is not time yet to speak of terms for the Armenian side to cede the controlled territories, Rubinyan said it was no coincidence.
In his turn, Artak Zagaryan of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, agreed that in Armenia-Turkey reconciliation Ankara could not remain indifferent to the Karabakh peace process. He pointed out that Turkey could not speak in term of ultimatums with Armenia. “All stages of the Armenia-Turkey process had been calculated. Turkey’s actions were not a surprise. We realized that the process will not be smooth and peaceful, but, the most important thing, Armenia’s interests were not affected,” Zagaryan stated. He also designated as unfounded the rumors about ceding of the controlled territories.
