On May 19, the Chairman of the NKR National Assembly Ashot Ghulyan received the former OSCE Special Representative for South Caucasus and present representative of the Paris office of the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation, Maurice Bono, who arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh to participate in the May 23 parliamentary elections as an international observer.

He intends to be engaged in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process as a conflict expert, NKR National Assembly press service informed NEWS.am. At the Institute headed by Natalya Narochnitskaya he studies frozen conflicts in the Post Soviet area, and with this end in view he visited Abkhazia, Transdniestra, Georgia. As a member of OSCE observer missions, he also plans to visit South Ossetia.

The NKR NA Speaker said that Nagorno-Karabakh is interested in European observer missions in elections, which will enable them to witness the formation of democracy in the country. “We are certainly well aware of our opponents’ negative attitude towards elections in Karabakh. Unfortunately, some international agencies support Azerbaijan’s stance, creating an impression they have no their own opinion,” Ghulyan said. Mr. Bono inquired about election process, Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and other issues.
