The anti-Armenian resolution approved by the European Parliament is Armenian diplomacy’s defeat, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) told NEWS.am.

According to him, the ex-president Robert Kocharyan and the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan are fully responsible for that resolution. As a result, the country’s foreign policy has lost its international reputation resulted in such anti-Armenian resolutions. The European Parliament has always had a balanced stance on the Karabakh conflict and such documents had never been adopted before, the oppositionist said. He also recalled the OIC Foreign Ministers’ statement on Nagorno-Karabakh, demanding the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the “occupied Azerbaijani territories.”

According to Hovhannisyan, the European Parliament’s resolution suggests that the international community intends to intensify the Karabakh peace process, but in the Armenian side’s favor. If the RA authorities continue to pursue the same policy, both the Karabakh peace process and Armenia-Turkey normalization process will be jeopardized, he said. The only way out of the current situation is early elections in the country, Hovhannisyan said.

A draft report prepared by Evgeni Kirilov contains a call “to abandon the tendency to prefer perpetuating the status quo created through military conquests” and “abandon the positions that Nagorno-Karabakh includes all Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani lands.”
