“Due to the possible Armenia-Turkey border opening, a number of Turkish businessmen already presented Armenian colleagues cooperation proposals that are to be considered,” Republican Party MP Gagik Melikyan stated at the October 16 press conference.

Taking account of Armenia’s sensitive economy, the MP expressed hope that reforms in tax and customs fields will be carried out with Armenia-Turkey border opening. According to him, the border unblocking will lead to increase in Armenian export volume and reduction of the imported goods’ cost in domestic market. However, Melikyan’s opponent — ARF Dashnaktsutyun MP Ara Nranyan was not that optimistic. The latter underlined that railway communication is not well developed in Turkey and the cargo traffic is implemented via tankers or cargo trucks that will cost Armenia too much.
