The survey conducted in one of the main trade unions of Ireland detected that their leaders make as much as €172,000 Euro, breakingnews.ie website reports, referring to the Irish Times.

However seven out of sixteen unions refused to disclose the figures their general secretaries are paid.

The Irish Times managed to find out that the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) and IMPACT were both paying their leaders the highest salaries. The INTO general secretary John Carr gets salary of €172,000, whereas Peter McLoone (IMPACT) earns over €171,000.

The three national executive officers of SIPTU each earned almost €125,000 last year, while ICTU general secretary David Begg is paid more than €137,000 per year by Congress.
