WASHINGTON. –The representatives of the Armenian community were not affected by the strong earthquake in the U.S., ANCA Spokeswoman Elizabeth Chuljian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The Armenian community was not affected by the quake, in fact, nothing terrible happened. Just several buildings were cracked,” she noted.

Referring to the possible aftershocks, Chuljyan cited U.S. geologists and seismologists, saying their likelihood is small.

As reported earlier, U.S. President Barack Obama had to interrupt his vacation as a magnitude 5,9 earthquake struck off East Coast on Tuesday.

The quake shook skyscrapers in New York City. The strongest tremor was registered at a nuclear power plant in Louisiana, where two reactors stopped.

John F. Kennedy and Newark-Liberty International Airports stopped operation. Currently the airports operate according to the schedule.
