YEREVAN. - The production of Armenian Almast factory competes with goods illegally imported from China to Armenia, said director-general of the factory Vahram Tepelikyan to journalists on Friday.

“If everybody acts in the legal field, we shall not have problems,” he added.

One of the factory workers told Armenian News-NEWS.am that if the half of all stone quarries ordered their tools in Almast, the plant would substantially increase production volumes. But quarries generally prefer Chinese tools, which have lower quality but are 10 percent cheaper than Armenian ones. This is largely precondition by absence of customs control.

“Instead of dealing with these kinds of problems and opening new working places, they are buying new cars,” said the worker.

Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the plant management informed him about this issue and the Ministry will take measures in this regard. 

Almast factory manufactures mainly cutting tools of stone, metal and glass.
