Soldiers and military families will be among those joining a Stop the War Coalition march in London 1200 BST on Saturday against UK military operations in Afghanistan, BBC informs Oct. 24.

“Organisers say they hope thousands of people will take part in the march — the first since the war began in 2001. It will be led by L/Cpl Joe Glenton, who is facing a court martial for refusing to return to Afghanistan. The government said Afghanistan must become ‘stable and secure’ before NATO forces could pull out.

Lindsey German, convener Stop the War Coalition said, ‘Barack Obama and Gordon Brown will soon find that this war turns out to be their Vietnam if they keep pouring in troops.’

Organisers of the march say they expect a ‘substantial turnout’ on Saturday, possibly as many as 15,000 people.
