“Ten years ago, October 27, an unprecedented crime was committed in Armenia. RA National Assembly Speaker Karen Demirchyan, Prime-Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, Vice Speaker Ruben Miroyan and Yuri Bakhshyan, MPs Henrikh Abrahamyan, Mikayel Kotanyan, Armenak Armenakyan and Leonard Petrosyan were shot at the session in RA Parliament,” the statement of Armenian National Congress (ANC) reads.

October 27 was not the terrorist act solely against exposed politicians, ANC says. “That crime became one of the most mournful pages of Armenian history. That day democracy in Armenia was executed and along with Demirchyan and Sargsyan political counterbalance ensuring healthy political atmosphere meanwhile hindering the dictatorship establishment was eliminated. Prior to this, during the establishment of Miasnutyun (Unity Alliance) RA President Robert Kocharyan appeared as a puppet. However, assuming the reins of the government, Kocharyan started to impede fair trial over October 27. National Security Service headed by Serzh Sargsyan was aware of the imminent crime, however did not take any measures for its prevention. AS a result, under the patronage of Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan criminal-oligarchic system was formed in Armenia, atmosphere of impunity was created and assassinations became the solution to political and economic issues. Thus, October 27 is not just a terrorist act against some politicians, but a crime against Armenian statehood. Its consequences are barbarian events of April 12, 2004, March 1 2008 events, Armenia-Turkey Protocols’ signing, negation of Genocide and Karabakh conflict anti-Armenian settlement process. October 27 remains one of the most shameful and tragic days in Armenian national history, unless organizers of the crime are revealed,” the statement concludes.
