YEREVAN.- Armenia is prepared to be the third party in the affair of Arthur Badalyan, Armenian Military Prosecutor and Armenia’s representative at the European Court of Human Rights Gevorg Kostanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“According to the regulation, when accepting the case the court sends to the government—in this case, the Armenian Government—a proposal to participate as a third party. No such proposal has been made so far,” Kostanyan noted.  

A native of Haghartsin village of Armenia’s Tavush region, Arthur Badalyan, 32, had lost his way in the forest and, accidentally crossing the border, had fallen captive to the Azerbaijanis, two years ago. He was returned in March of this year.

Arthur Badalyan’s attorney had appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, filing a complaint against Azerbaijan on the grounds that holding a civilian captive is a blatant violation of the international humanitarian law and human rights.
