YEREVAN. – Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) statement on closing the chapter on March 1 is simply a counterblow to Armenia’s first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who was saying to this day that he had resolved the matter, Heritage Party MP Stepan Safaryan stated during a press conference on Saturday.
“Yesterday’s PACE statement on closing the chapter on March 1 seemed to make it clear that, if you are satisfied, so are we,” the MP noted.
Based on its study of the Report on Activities of Armenia’s Democratic Institutions, PACE Monitoring Committee adopted on Friday a draft resolution on Activities of Armenia’s Democratic Institutions.
“The outcome of the latest general amnesty in Armenia, the renewed impetus to investigate the 10 deaths during the March 2008 events, and the resulting start of a constructive dialogue between the opposition and ruling coalition mean that the chapter on the March 2008 events can finally be considered closed”, the Committee’s draft resolution reads.
