October 28, 2009 the elections of Federal Chancellor held in Germany. The Leader of Christian Democratic Union of Germany Angela Merkel was re-elected to a second term. Merkel will hold the office for the next four years.
According to BBC, by secret ballot, 323 MPs out of 612 voted for Merkel.
Later, 16 ministers of the new Cabinet will return to Bundestag where to swear an oath. The first session of the new Government will follow the ceremony. After the official opening Chancellor Angela Merkel and German new Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will leave for Paris at French president Nikolas Sarkozy’s invitation, Deutsche Welle reports.
