India's annual monsoon swept across the country on Sunday, a week earlier than usual, but rainfall totals have so far been 10 percent below average for the season, Reuters reports, citing meteorological department officials.
Monsoons are the "lifeblood" of India's $3 trillion economy and bring much-needed water to farms and replenish reservoirs. They also bring relief from the most intense summer heat.
