In 1933 Sevan Lake had 58 billion cubic meters of water supply, while today – only 35 billion c.m. Thus, overall the water level dropped for 16,75 meters., Vladimir Movsisyan, Chairman of the Commission to Study Prior Problems of Lake Sevan stated at the meeting with journalists on July 13.

He added that since 1933 the water of Sevan was used for irrigation and generation of electricity. Also Movsisyan informed the journalists about the ongoing project on Lake Sevan, according to which the level of lake will rise for 20 – 21 cm. annually and by 2031 will reach planned 1903.5 meters. Compared to last year, this year Sevan level already increased by 13 cm.

The Chairman also mentioned: "If the lake’s water level reaches the forecasted level, 2770 hectares of forests, 2.2 km of a new road, 18 km of transmission lines, 19 km of gas pipelines as well as 1690 illegal and 66 legal constructions will stay under the water. Movsisyan emphasized, that the level of the lake will increase anyhow, therefore the owners of legal constructions will get damage repair, whereas illegal owners – not.
