Armenian and Finnish foreign ministers Elina Valtonen had a tête-à-tête Thursday in Helsinki, which was followed by an extended meeting between the two delegations, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

The interlocutors discussed the possibilities of development of cooperation in various domains in parallel with the political dialogue. The reforms being carried out by Armenia in toward strengthening its democratic institutions and Finland's support programs in this matter were highlighted, too.

Also, Mirzoyan and Valtonen thoroughly discussed the matters on the agenda of Armenia-EU partnership. Among the important tools being used in Armenia’s cooperation with EU organizations and member states, the start of the dialogue on visa liberalization, the provision of support to Armenia under the European Peace Facility, as well as the importance of the activities of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia were pointed out.

They reflected also on cooperation on multilateral platforms, including within the upcoming chairmanship-in-office of Finland in the OSCE.

The FMs of Armenia and Finland exchanged views on regional issues as well. In this connection, Mirzoyan presented the efforts being made to normalize Armenia’s relations with the neighbors. In the context of establishing lasting stability in the South Caucasus, the Armenian FM emphasized the importance of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia's vision for the unblocking of regional communications.
