France adopted law on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 2001, Union for Popular Movement MP Richard Mallie said on Thursday in the French Parliament during the discussion of the bill on penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide.

According to the MP, France gave a place to the Armenian Genocide in its collective memory by recognizing the fact.

“The recognition is not enough. This law does not allow condemning publicly those denying the Armenian Genocide. That is why we should adopt the bill,” he stated.

France holds discussions on the bill penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide in the Parliament on Thursday. In case the bill is adopted, a one year of imprisonment and a fine amounting to €45000 is intended for those denying the fact of the Armenian Genocide.
