PreferredYEREVAN. – In an interview with Yerkir daily, French Embassy in Armenia’s Chargé d'Affaires, Isabelle Ginelle, avoided making any political assessment on the French National Assembly’s passing of the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide, but she noted that the bill’s passing is the logical continuation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s recent visit paid to Armenia, the daily writes.
‘“The passing of this bill complements France’s passing, ten years ago, of the law that recognizes the [Armenian] Genocide. And it should be said that the passing of this bill is directed toward punishing all crimes against humanity, in general,’ Isabelle Ginelle noted. The French official does not wish to predict how tense French-Turkish relations would become. ‘Future will tell,’ she noted, recalling that the bill still needs to be approved by the [French] Senate,” Yerkir writes.
