US President Donald Trump is losing patience with Elon Musk after the billionaire attacked Republicans’ sprawling tax-and-spending bill, sources said on Wednesday, reports The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the sources, Musk, who until recently oversaw the work of the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has long been frustrated with the new bill. He was prompted to make more aggressive statements on the issue by Trump’s decision to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman to lead the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), WSJ sources believe. Isaacman was a protégé of Musk and said in conversations with aides that it was Musk's departure from the Trump administration that enabled him to withdraw his candidacy.

It is too early to say to what extent Musk's attacks will affect his relationship with Trump, anonymous US officials told the WSJ. The current US president knows how to forgive, but does not forget about disrespect, the sources added.

Musk has previously stated that the Trump administration's bill to reduce government spending is disgusting, and noted that such an initiative would increase the already huge US budget deficit and burden American citizens with unsustainable debt.
