The remarks made by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, during an interview with Russia Today, when he “distorted facts” regarding the former Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and presented the Karabakh region as a disputed territory, are both regrettable and surprising. This is stated in a commentary by Aykhan Hajizada, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia. The Azerbaijani MFA spox accused Medinsky of not knowing that Karabakh was allegedly never a disputed territory, adding that "Russia itself has recognized and continues to recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan’s territory."

The statement added that "the Assistant to the President of a country that was a co-chair of the Minsk Group either does not understand or does not wish to understand his country’s position on this matter." Also, the Azerbaijani MFA spox slammed the Russian presidential aide for comparing the Russian-Ukrainian war with the situation in Karabakh. The Azerbaijani MFA spox shamelessly lied that Azerbaijan had never waged an aggressive war, and described the Azerbaijani attacks on Karabakh in 2020 and 2023 as “anti-terrorist measures.”

“We recommend Mr. Medinsky to refrain from damaging interstate relations while making such erroneous claims on matters beyond his authority,” the Azerbaijani MFA spox concluded.
