The Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: The ruling elite [of Armenia] is convinced that His Holiness [Karekin] will soon resign from the high post of Catholicos [of All Armenians].

Sources close to the authorities claim that His Holiness has no choice, he has found himself in a situation where he must “submit” to [PM] Nikol Pashinyan’s claims, and the clergy [of the Armenian Apostolic Church] must elect a new Catholicos.

The authorities have held discussions among their closest circle and assured each other that His Holiness “will have no choice” when the pressures [on him] increase day by day.

But the churchmen [of the Armenian Apostolic Church] tell the Zhoghovurd daily that His Holiness has assured the team that they will achieve what they want only through silence, and the "noise" raised by Pashinyan should not be given effect to, and it will gradually die down soon.

It is not yet clear which side will have the desired result for itself in the near future, but it is a fact that broad circles of [Armenian] society do not like what is happening.
