The situation on the border is relatively stable, and at the moment I have no worrying data. Deputy defense minister of Armenia Arman Sargsyan told this to reporters—and regarding the situation following Israel's large-scale attack on Iran on early Friday morning.

Responding to the question of whether the Armenian Ministry of Defense (MoD) had assessed the risks of an attack on Syunik Province, taking into account that at this tense moment Turkey and Azerbaijan are conducting military exercises in the immediate vicinity of Armenia, the deputy defense minister stated that, “Naturally, any escalation [of tension] in the region is worrisome.”

Also, Sargsyan assured that the Armenian MoD “is monitoring the situation.”

In response to the question on how Armenia was preparing to defend its borders, Sargsyan said to the extent of its capabilities and potential, if necessary.

“Nevertheless, Armenia must do everything politically to prevent escalation [of tension] in the immediate region,” he added.

But the deputy minister left unanswered the question of whether Armenia’s MoD had communicated with its Iranian counterparts.
