The U.S. Air Force has unveiled what the new AGM-181A Long-Range Standoff (LRSO) nuclear-armed cruise missile might look like.

The LRSO is set to replace the United States’ only nuclear-armed cruise missile, the AGM-86B Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM), which was developed during the Cold War, reports Naked Science.

According to The War Zone, the LRSO has been undergoing classified flight tests for several years. A distinguishing feature of the new missile will be its autonomous response to threats in air defense zones to ensure an optimal path to the target.

The new missile will be deployed on B-21 Raider and B-52 Stratofortress bombers. The LRSO is expected to enter service by the end of the current decade.
