The cost of rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare system will be at least $7 billion, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

“The total cost of restoring Gaza’s healthcare system will be no less than $7 billion,” he said at a press briefing in Geneva. According to him, the organization has already assisted in evacuating 41 patients and 145 accompanying persons to several countries. “However, 15,000 patients still require treatment outside Gaza, including 4,000 children,” the WHO chief explained. He noted that over 700 people died waiting for evacuation.

According to a joint rapid assessment by the UN, EU, and World Bank, rebuilding Gaza will require about $70 billion. UN officials added that not all areas will be restored.
