YEREVAN. - The Emo subculture is not a crime all in all but it still contains risks, Deputy Head of the Third Division of Armenian Police Criminal Investigation Service, Colonel Nelly Duryan told during a press conference on Friday.

She reminded that in 2010 there had been some investigations in connection with that movement, but in 2011 nothing of that sort occurred.

“Then the media was writing why the police was interested in that movement. It is not a crime. But begging is not a crime either,” the police representative mentioned.

According to her the Emo movement contains dangers as it promotes depression and suicides are very common. Nelly Duryan did not tell how many suicide attempts there have been in Armenia related to the movement.

She mentioned that incidents do happen at schools and in order to prevent clashes among students the schools must cooperate with the police.

According to her, sometimes teenagers take cutting and piercing items to school.

In connection with this issue the colonel stressed the importance of the family in educating their children.
