“Strikingly, the participants of OSCE Ministerial Council in Athens make statements on positive breakthrough and achievements within the 6 meetings of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents, when the leadership of Azerbaijan as a rule speaks before and after the meetings with threats to resume military showdown, pursuing its almost 20-year destabilization policy of the situation in South Caucasus,” Head of the Kachar research center Mher Haroutyunyan said commenting on the joint statement of Russian, French, Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg.
“This proves that Baku does not intend to follow Madrid Principles. Such double position jeopardizes the efforts by mediators and Armenian side to peace establishment, stability and prosperity in the region. It seems Azerbaijani representatives simulate their participation in peacekeeping process, while consistently gear for war. Even though Azerbaijani FM assures of his decisiveness to work on the resolution of unsettled issues in his last statement, nobody will take the liberty to guarantee that further some Azeri high ranking official will not dilute this statement by warlike rhetoric,” Haroutyunyan noted.
