Before the meeting in Brussels, on my Facebook page I had stated the red lines of the Armenian side, and the point was that Armenia won’t accept any logic of corridor. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated during his online press conference today.

“What we talked about the railways in Brussels was a summary of the talks in Sochi, and we stated that there will be full border control from both sides. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan accepted this, and we agreed on the direction of the railway. In regard to the roads, Armenia’s principled position remains unchanged. In Brussels the President of Azerbaijan and I tried to go into detail, and I saw some opportunities that Armenia needs to try to take advantage of,” Pashinyan said.

Asked what was discussed during the personal talks with Aliyev, Pashinyan said they discussed what they had discussed in the past and emphasized that the important thing during these negotiations is to find a solution to the issue of legal regulations. “If we reach an agreement on legal regulations, the remaining issues become technical issues. We view it as a road linking Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan, but I would like for us to look at it from a different perspective since this is taking place within the logic of opening of regional communications. Based on our understanding, this is not only a road linking Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan, but also an international transit road, the opening of which Armenia is also interested in. in other words, we need to have a road that will be as inviting as possible for international transit cargo transportation because this will help Armenia gain many benefits,” the Prime Minister declared, adding that Armenia has not ruled out and doesn’t rule out the construction of a new road.

As far as security guarantees are concerned, Pashinyan said the following: “We need to specify the guarantees. We perceive it as escorts. This is one of the possible options.”
