  • Azerbaijan opened fire early hours on Tuesday near the Armenian borders. The reports have been confirmed by the Armenian defense ministry spokesperson who said that the adversary also used UAVs.

According to the Armenian Defense Ministry, the strike included drones and large-caliber firearms fired in the direction of Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk.

The Armenian side has casualties and wounded. The death toll has reached 49. At least three civilians have been injured in a strike.

The Armenian ombudsman office also has facts that the Azerbaijani army has been shelling the ambulance.

  • At a press briefing early on Tuesday, Armenian defense spokesperson Aram Torosyan said the situation remains "extremely tense" as fighting continues.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan later told parliament that "For the moment, we have 49 [troops] killed and unfortunately it's not the final figure."

  • Armenia has said it will appeal to the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)  as well as the UN Security Council.

Prime Minister Pashinyan called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the outbreak of violence.

He also called French President Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel and the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Pashinyan's office said the calls were made to inform the leaders of Azerbaijan's aggressive acts against Armenia's sovereign territory and to demand an adequate reaction of the international community.

The US has called for an end to the clashes.

"As we have long made clear, there can be no military solution to the conflict," Blinken said in a statement. "We urge an end to any military hostilities immediately."

Iran's Foreign Ministry, in turn, expressed concern over the escalation of tensions on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and called for restraint and resolution of disputes peacefully and on the basis of international law.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani noted the inadmissibility for Iran of any change in the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

  • Meanwhile, Russian senator Grigory Karasin, noted that after Pashinyan held talks with Putin the situation managed to move to a relatively calm, peaceful direction. However, "there will be a lot of work ahead," because Pashinyan appealed to the CSTO, he added.
