YEREVAN.- Armenian communists consider that both ruling party and the opposition are self-critical and this  differs the present election campaign from the previous ones.

Talking to journalists on Monday, head of the United Progressive Communist Party of Armenia Vazgen Safaryan stressed that many of those speaking about injustice forget they are a part of the leadership.

“There were no obvious obstacles to the meetings with voters but people are a little bit scared and try to avoid meetings with the representatives of the opposition forces,” he said.

Safaryan does not trust the public opinion polls. He said the main goal of such surveys is to mislead the voters.

In case free and fair elections are held, the Communist Party will receive 10% of votes, he added.

The Communist Party plans to march in downtown Yerevan on Tuesday to mark the International Workers’ Day.

The Communist Party of Armenia is running for the parliament jointly with the Progressive United Communist Party. The party’s mottos are ‘Nation wins if Communists win’ and ‘Socialism, homeland, victory.’

The party’s proportional list includes 75 names.
