YEREVAN. – Armenia’s economic activity index comprised 7.2 percent in January-April 2012, as compared with the same time period last year, the National Statistical Service bulletin reports. 

To note, the economic activity level was at 6.1 percent in March. 

And the economic activity’s primary engines continue to be industry, with 15.3-percent, and the services sector, with 10.1-percent growth rates. Agriculture registered a 1.1-percent growth, and trade turnover increased by 0.9 percent. Construction continues to fall and is currently at 5.2 percent. 

Incidentally, the statistics confirm that a retail trade turnover growth likewise was registered in April, as compared with the previous months.   

Armenia’s average monthly salary in January-April 2012 is AMD 115,200 (approx. US$ 295), which is a 5.3-percent increase. The average monthly wage in the private sector is AMD 142,700 (approx. $360), which is a 5.6-percent increase, and that of the state sector is AMD 92,300 (approx. $232), which is a 4.7-percent rise.    

Foreign trade turnover constituted $1.7 billion (10.3-percent growth), whose export is $440 million (17.8-percent growth) and import is $1.3 billion (8.7-percent growth).
