YEREVAN. – Armenian Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that he condemns the incidents of violence and intolerance against homosexuality and other minorities, commenting on the events regarding DIY Rock Pub in downtown Yerevan.

“I suggest to ease this escalation, which I think has artificial origins, and I call to both sides to stop the tension as there is an aggressive division in our society. I ask all parties to stop making discrimination and hatred statements. Let us wait for the police and the attorney to make right decisions in the framework of the law,” Karen Andreasyan said.

Talking about the Diversity Parade and the protest action organized against the parade the Ombudsman said that according to him every group in the society has the right to express itself with peaceful demonstrations and marches.

“I am not against different actions, demonstrations and marches to take place in the Republic supporting this or that disposition but they must not turn into wildness,” Karen Andreasyan said.
