YEREVAN. - Russia, as a co-chairing state of the OSCE Minsk Group, sees resolution of the Karabakh conflict only through peaceful talks and condemns military approach, said Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko.

The Ambassador comments came in response to the cases of violation of ceasefire regime and acts of sabotage along the line of contact.

“The reports on armed incidents along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and line of contact around Nagorno-Karabakh are concerning. Russia, as a co-chairing state of the OSCE Minsk Group, sees resolution of the Karabakh conflict only through peaceful talks and condemns military approach,” the diplomat said.

According to Kovalenko, it is obvious that in order to avoid bloodshed, there is a necessity for the conflicting parties to sign an agreement on non-use of force or threat of force, which would create a more favorable environment to resolve the dispute at the negotiating table.

“This position is supported by the international community has no alternative,” he stressed.

Speaking about acts of sabotage by the Azerbaijani side coinciding with the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the region, Kovalenko said it is difficult to speculate on the interconnection of these events.

“I want to say that it does not matter when they occur. It is tragic that people are dying, and the regional tension is growing. Russia is fully interested in the stable situation in the South Caucasus,” he said.
