YEREVAN. – Five new slaughterhouses, three of which with Halal standards, will open in Armenia, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan told reporters on Wednesday.

“The new slaughterhouses, which will meet sanitary standards, will raise the food production safety of our country,” Karapetyan stated.

In addition, as per the minister, Armenia can increase meat exports to Muslim countries.

Moreover, in Karapetyan’s words, meat shortage is unlikely to happen in Armenia.

“The [sheep] stocks have increased. Naturally, people see an income opportunity. And, now, such an opportunity is offered. Aside from live animals, we can export meat, too,” Sergo Karapetyan said.
