YEREVAN. - Hundreds of citizens have taken part today in the candlelight vigil held in front of French Embassy in Armenia and then in Yerevan's France Square in memory of the victims of terror attacks in Paris.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, FM Edward Nalbandian, Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan and other dignitaries also took part in the event, as reported by Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

Sargsyan laid red roses at the statue by Auguste Rodin and bowed to the memory of the victims.

The candlelight vigil attendees brought with them posters reading “Our prayers, hearts and souls are with French people,” “We pray for Paris,” “Vive la France” and “Stop Terrorism.”

The square in the heart of Yerevan was renamed France Square during the visit of the then French President Jacques Chirac to Armenia in 2006. 5 years later, during his visit to Armenia in 2001, French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy proposed to install the sculpture of Jules Bastien-Lepage by world-known sculptor Auguste Rodin in the square.

Simultaneous terrorist attacks occurred Friday evening in six different parts of the French capital city.

The attacks claimed over 150 lives and injured numerous people.
