YEREVAN. – Georgia has made progress in combating corruption, and the conclusion is very simple: Armenia can do the same.

Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, stated the abovementioned at Wednesday’s discussion with donor organizations, and along the lines of the fight against corruption in the country.

Świtalski, making a reference to the respective Transparency International rankings where Armenia, Russia and Georgia are 96th, 161st and 56th, respectively, among 176 countries, stressed that he does not know with what Armenia differs from Georgia in this respect.

As per the EU diplomat, the determining factor in combating corruption is the relevant political will.

Świtalski noted that Armenia has wonderful documents, and its strategy to fight against corruption is one of the best documents he has seen.

But, as per the EU official, the problem is that the country’s youth are laughing at these documents.

So, according to Piotr Świtalski, these documents need to be strengthened with actions and political will.

In conclusion, head of the EU Delegation to Armenia stated that the young generation of Armenia should be accountable, since this matter relates to the country’s future.
