STEPANAKERT. - Azerbaijan tries to cynically mislead the international community and avoid shouldering the responsibility for the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani army, the statement of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons reads.

The statement was issued in response to the publications of the Azerbaijani media outlets on the alleged traces of degrading treatment found on the bodies of the Azerbaijani servicemen handed over to the Azerbaijani side on April 10.

The NKR Commission reminds that the exchange was carried out through the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.

“Before the beginning of the procedure, the bodies of all the dead were examined in the presence of the ICRC representatives. No traces of degrading or tough treatment had been found and recorded on the bodies of the Azerbaijani servicemen.

By voicing groundless accusations five days after the exchange of bodies, Azerbaijan tries to cynically mislead the international community and avoid shouldering the responsibility for the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani army against the NKR civilians and servicemen, as well as for the numerous cases of degrading treatment over the bodies of the dead, which the Karabakh side earlier informed about,” the statement reads.
