YEREVAN. – The ticket prices for flights from Armenia to Russia have sharply risen due to the closure of the Upper Lars checkpoint at the Georgia-Russia border.

A travel agency informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, now, the ticket price for a flight to Moscow has doubled and is sold for 120,000 drams.

“The [plane] tickets to all cities of Russia (…) have gone up more than twice,” added the travel agency.

On June 23, a 500- to 600-meter road section in Georgia was completely collapsed about 2 km away from Upper Lars checkpoint, and due to the Terek River bursting its banks as a result of heavy rainfall, and therefore the Russia-Georgia border crossing was closed. Due to safety concerns, all vehicles are prohibited from traveling along this road.
