Moscow will continue the line of conditional equidistance with regard to Baku and Yerevan.

Professor of the World Economy and International Affairs Faculty Department at the National Research University of the Higher School of Economics Alexey Portanski, who is also a leading fellow at the Institute of World Economy and International Affairs of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said the aforementioned at an online press-conference, organized by Region research center.

Touching on the issue whether Russia will manage to balance its economic interests in Azerbaijan and Turkey with the military and geopolitical interests of Armenia and whether the equidistance in relations with the strategic partner Azerbaijan and military-political ally Armenia is not dangerous for Moscow’s reputation, Alexey Portanski noted: “The experience of long-lasting trade and economic ties of Russia with Turkey confirms that this is not a hindrance to the geopolitical interests of Russia and Armenia.  Moscow will continue the line of conditional equidistance with regard to Baku and Yerevan, considering that the ties with Armenia are nonetheless deeper.”
