YEREVAN. – Starting from 2017, Gokhran (State Administration for the Formation of the State Fund of Precious Metals and Precious Stones of the Russian Federation) wants to sell diamonds directly to Armenia, Gokhran head Andrei Yurin told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Pursuant to an interstate agreement that was signed in 2013, Russia exports diamonds to Armenia without export customs duties, but by means of the Almazyuvelireksport Russian state-run enterprise.

“The law permits us to also work without intermediaries,” noted Yurin. “Thus, we will be able to take the requirements of our partners into more consideration.”

Polished diamonds’ exports—based on imported raw materials—are one of Armenia’s main export articles.
