Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama elected as a president of the next UN climate meeting appealed to the U.S. to save the islands of the Pacific Ocean from the effects of global warming, BBC reported.

He stated that climate change is not a hoax as the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump claims. Fiji leader took the opportunity to appeal to Trump to throw away skepticism concerning climate issues.

“I again appeal to the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to show leadership on this issue by abandoning his current position that man-made climate change is a hoax,” Bainimarama said on the final day of climate talks in Marrakech

“On the contrary, the global scientific consensus is that it (climate change) is very real and we must act decisively to avert catastrophe,” Bainimarama said.
