YEREVAN. - There are serious grounds for the resignation and prevention of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Pedro Agramunt's re-election.

Director of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs and political scientist Stepan Safaryan, who used to be included in the Armenian delegation to PACE, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

In his words, it is quite easy to struggle against PACE President Pedro Agramunt since pursuant to the notorious report on ''caviar diplomacy'' he was involved in the corruption scandal by the Azerbaijani side. ''This can be done in the most diverse ways. First, it is necessary to have good ties. I think, any deputy can raise this issue in their faction. It will be shameful if Agramunt is re-elected. Our deputies must merely lobby literately, and this will yield its result. It is necessary to make a big dust so that he is himself obliged to resign on his own,'' Safaryan stressed, admitting that the capacities of the Armenian parliamentary delegation are mostly limited.

''If our deputy corps had carried out enough work, it would have prevented the adoption of the report on Sarsang reservoir in due time.  This is already indicative of what we can and cannot do. Unfortunately, the present Armenian parliament includes people who are not able to carry out the work needed. This, of course, doesn't relate to everyone, but the capacities of the delegation are limited mostly because of this,'' the former MP said.
