BRUSSELS. - Regardless of the readiness of the Armenian side to reasonable compromises, the right of the Nagorno-Karabakh people to decide its future through free expression of will is essential in this issue.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said the aforementioned on Monday at the joint press-conference with President of the European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels.

“There can be no second position here,” Sargsyan said.

In his words, the Karabakh confrontation has no military solution. “The right to self-determination of the Karabakh people is not only declared by international fundamental documents, but has also long ago been recognized and enshrined in various statements of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the only specialized institution dealing with the conflict. That is, this is the collective perception of the issue not only by Armenia but also the international community,” Sargsyan said. “We are grateful for the balanced stance of the EU regarding the peaceful settlement of the conflict, as well as for trusting the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and supporting them.

The European Union is an exemplary history of building civilized relations, history of jointly overcoming issues between the neighbors—something we need at present.”
