NATO is committed to working with Armenia because cooperation is in interests of both sides, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said after his meeting with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. 

Mr. Stoltenber welcomed partnership with Armenia noting that it is 25th anniversary of Armenia’s joining the North Atlantic Cooperation Council which is a foundation of the partnership.

NATO Secretary General noted Armenia’s important contribution to the mission to Afghanistan and fighting terrorism. Armenia also contributes to peacekeeping mission in Kosovo that is keeping western Balkans stable.

“Armenian troops bring stability to these countries and make area safer and more secure,” he added.

NATO and Armenia are developing new action plan and Secretary General sees opportunities to cooperate closely on defense reform, defense education.

The Secretary General praised Armenia for its participation in NATO’s Building Integrity Programme to counter corruption in the armed forces, and its progress on implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 to promote the role of women in peace and security.,
