SOCAR plans to take control of Russia-Armenia gas pipeline passing through Georgia, announced the president of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev, APA reports.

According to him, SOCAR has already approached the owner of the pipeline - National Gas Company of Georgia and expressed their interest in participating in the process, in the case of privatization or transfer of the pipeline operation.

According to Abdullayev, SOCAR provides 70-75% of the Georgian gas market. SOCAR continues to work in the provinces of Georgia and virtually all of the gas system of the country, apart from Tbilisi, is under the control of the company.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, in July of this year the authorities were about to allow the sale of the main pipeline that supplies gas from Russia to Armenia. On July 6 the Georgian parliament passed a bill that eliminated the natural gas pipeline from the list of strategic services. According to the media, Azerbaijan appeared among possible buyers. However, these rumors were not confirmed.
