STEPANAKERT. - During the special session of the National Assembly (NA) of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic held on Wednesday, Bako Sahakyan was elected president of the republic.

The special NA session was attended by 32 deputies, of which 28 voted for Bako Sahakyan, whereas the other candidate, head of Movement 88 faction, former mayor of Stepanakert, Eduard Aghabekyan, received 4 votes.

The results of the closed secret ballot were announced in the NA by the Chairman of the Calculating Commission Romela Dadayan.

Earlier it was reported that two candidates were nominated for presidency. They were MP Eduard Aghabekyan, who was nominated by the Movement 88 faction and incumbent President Bako Sahakyan, who was nominated by the Fatherland, Dashnaktsutyun, and Democracy factions.
