YEREVAN. – Belgium is one of the candidates for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council, the vote will take place in six months, Belgian Ambassador to Armenia Jean-Arthur Regibeau told reporters on Thursday.

The diplomat hoped Armenia would support Belgium’s candidacy. According to the ambassador, there are several reasons why Belgium wants to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“Belgium has sustained extensive damage due to wars, and naturally does not like wars. This is one of the reasons. The best way to resolve conflicts is a dialogue. Disagreements are normal, they can even exist between two close friends, but it is important to overcome this. The solution must satisfy all sides. We want to share our experience at the UN Security Council. The second reason is the protection of human rights and citizens. The third is the focus on environmental problems,” said the ambassador.
