YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received the newly appointed EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Toivo Klaar on Friday.

According to the press office of the President, Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the EU Special Representative on his appointment and expressed hope that Toivo Klaar’s activity would not only positively contribute to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but would promote the Armenia-EU relations.

Serzh Sargsyan said the Armenian government had managed to establish a good working climate and hold open and frank discussions with the previous Special Representative of the EU, Herbert Salber and noted that the work with the new special representative would also proceed in the same way.

Toivo Klaar noted that the purpose of his mission was to support the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, and he would do his best to contribute to the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

By signing new partnership agreement, Armenia and EU open new chapter in history of their relations, Klaar said, adding he would contribute to the development of the Armenian-EU relations.
