YEREVAN.- Azerbaijani extraordinary presidential elections, which will be held on April 11, are more like a "dramatized show", chairman of Armenian parliament’s standing committee on European integration Naira Zohrabyan told Armenian News- NEWS.

According to her, real elections based on the principles of democracy are not held in Azerbaijan.

"I believe that the farce called" Azerbaijani elections", whether they are parliamentary or presidential, should not be paid attention," Zohrabyan  said.

She noted, the fact, that Azerbaijan abolished presidential term limits, shows that the international community deals not with a democratic state, but with an actual medieval sultanate, where laws are absolutely contrary to democratic principles.

At the same time, according to Zohrabyan, there is no real political opposition or free media in Azerbaijan that can resist the Aliyev regime, as all active representatives of the real opposition were imprisoned.

Earlier it was reported that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on February 5 unexpectedly issued an order to hold extraordinary presidential elections on April 11. The head of state received the right to personally appoint early elections after amendments to the Constitution were made at a referendum on September 26, 2016.
