The former NATO secretary general, Javier Solana, was denied permission to travel to the U.S. following his visit to Iran, the New York Times reported. 

Solana was scheduled to have a speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.

The US embassy automatically refuses the visa if a person has previously traveled to Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen.
